Welcome to Digital Society
This website is a collaborative project by the students of the Economics and Policies Towards Utilization of Info-Communications Technologies Seminar at the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies (GSAPS) of Waseda University, Tokyo. We use this website to showcase our seminar’s activities, and to communicate with each other and the world. Hopefully this website can give you an idea of what our seminar is like.
Seminar circles are a system used by Waseda University to bring together students with similar academic interests so that they can discuss their research. In our seminar (or, as we usually call it, our “zemi”) we have the opportunity to present our research progress, to test the strength of our ideas, and to challenge our limits. Being part of a zemi is more than just a tool for the completion of a master thesis; it is the space where we all become members of the academic community.
The Economics and Policies towards Utilization of Info- Communications Technologies Seminar led by professor Hitoshi Mitomo is the seminar group for GSAPS students with a specific academic interest in telecommunications and beyond. We meet every Thursday to discuss our research progress, academic activities relevant to our subjects – such as conferences and study visits, and the latest industry updates; after all, keeping up with telecom news is quite a feat in itself!
A seminar is not a static study group. It changes depending on its members and what interests them, so every time new students join us, the zemi changes to suit the needs of the current group. Currently, we cover subjects ranging from cloud computing to social media advertising to smart grids. Here is an overview of what the zemi members are up to:
If you would like to know more about our zemi, this website is the place to start. We are looking forward to hear from you!
